Blasting the Binger Loch: work barges at the rock reefs below Rüdesheim.

The Binger Loch is widened

Rock reefs just below Rüdesheim forced generations of boatmen through the narrow Binger Loch at the entrance to the gorge. The final major blasting in 1973-74 widened the navigable channel. That completed a long sequence of river engineering.
